Welcome to the Step by Step web site!

Previously known as Emmaus Projects, we were established 20 years ago, and have grown steadily. We now have fourteen separate services. You can read about what we do in this leaflet.

Our mission
To empower homeless people and those facing adversity to achieve their full potential.

Our vision
To become a leading organisation which sets a standard for excellence and continually develops to meet the needs of homeless people and those facing adversity.

We work with young people aged 16 to 25, (in some cases older than this), through a structured combination of services including accommodation, support, training, and counselling.

Click here if you are a young person
in need of emergency accommodation.

Jim keeps on running - for 145 miles!
Jim Rapley, who recently ran the Fleet Half Marathon for us dressed as 'The Phoenix', is attempting the mind-boggling, sweat-inducing, leg-wobbling challenge of running the Grand Union Canal Race from Birmingham to London on June 2: 145 miles in one go!

He's hoping to raise plenty of money for us, so DO PLEASE sponsor him - visit his Virgin Money Giving web page NOW and help to make it all worth while. Go for it, Jim!

Big Summer Sleepout 2012 - Homelessness isn't incurable, and you can help!
Following on from the success of last year's Big Summer Sleepout, we are preparing another - bigger and better! - event for June 29/30th. Once again, by kind permission of Aldershot Town Football Club, we will be sleeping out under the stars at the EBB Stadium in Aldershot, and we're already preparing a great line up of entertainment.

Everyone who came last time enjoyed themselves, so book the date, register your interest NOW, and find some mates to make up a team and join in the fun.

Hilton Bracknell goes the extra mile
We've received great support from the Hilton in Bracknell and they recently completed a 175-mile 'Tour de Cluster' cycle ride to raise money for us, resulting in a £1,700 donation to our funds. This was added to other fundraising proceeds of £1,670 - tremendous effort Hilton - thank you! Read more...

School Leavers wanted...
The National Citizen Service aims to challenge young people who are leaving school to become involved in outdoor activities and to work together on a community project. For the first time, Step by Step are running the scheme for Rushmoor and surrounding areas.

It's a brilliant opportunity for anyone leaving school Year 11 to showcase their talents and make a real, positive difference to their community. It's also great chance to start building up your CV and Personal Statements while making new friends, developing essential life skills – and having fun! We're looking for recruits from around the area: if you're interested - or know someone who might be - please contact Nick Wooldridge on 01252 346117 or email nick.wooldridge@stepbystep.org.uk for more details - but read our press release first!

ASICS Fleet Half Marathon - the results
Congratulations to our brilliant team of runners who not only ran the course, but raised over £5,000 for our funds - a magnificent effort. You can read more about their achievements in the press release and - even better - see them in action in our photo gallery!

We've been on the radio... and the television!
As part of a report on homelessness, broadcast on February 15, Nick Wallis, of BBC Surrey Radio, interviewed Dionne, one of our clients on the Surrey Breakfast show. Nick also broadcast an entire show from Step by Step on December 23rd. Do spend a few minutes listening to the interviews with Dionne and other clients.

Step by Step was also featured in the televsion news for Hampshire and Isle of Wight over Christmas, so have a look at a short clip from the report.

Our new building
Although we moved in eight months ago, you might like to find out more about our new building. Read the background, which explains why we needed new premises; read about the project team that managed the whole process, and the organisations that funded it. Have a look at the report on our special Open Day in October, when the building was officially opened. You can also see glimpses of the interior of the building in use by clients in this short BBC TV clip.

Supported Lodgings hosts required
We have an urgent need for more Supported Lodgings hosts in the Aldershot, Farnborough, North Camp, Frimley, Camberley, Farnham and Woking areas, and also in Newbury, Thatcham and Hungerford. Host families are paid for the service they provide and are given comprehensive training and support.areas. Read our recent press release.

This can be a very challenging task, but also a very rewarding one. Please do have a look at what Supported Lodgings is about, and read how you could become a host - we need you!

Have a go at one of our 'fun'draising events...
We want to put the 'fun' back into fundraising and we've got a couple of great ideas for you:
Ever thought about doing a parachute jump? Of course you have! We've just made it easier for you to help us and treat yourself to a unique experience - and all at no cost.
Read our press release about it all...

Or what about a sponsored Sleepout? Great for all ages from 16 upwards (or younger in some circumstances).

Work experience - can you help?
Our Employment & Education project includes a period of work experience. We're looking for organisations who are prepared to take on a young person for a couple of weeks. We will work very closely with you to ensure that the experience is rewarding for your company and the young person. If you think you can help, please contact Charlotte Burley on email or call 01252 346116.
